The White Mountains of New Hampshire
We only did one hike in this area, but what a hike! It’s starts deceptively easy, walking along a brook, stopping to admire the cascades and small waterfalls. Then you reach Cloudland Falls, and then you CLIMB Cloudland Falls, and then you keep climbing for 3800 feet over difficult rocky terrain and boulder scrambles to an incredible ridge trail that takes you along three peaks (Little Haystack Mountain, Mount Lincoln, Mount Lafayette). The views at the top were blocked by low clouds and wildfire smoke, but the ridge itself was like nothing we’ve hiked before. The only real damper was the trip back down, it was raining slightly which made all the rocks super slick. No real danger of falling off a cliff, but a high risk of twisted ankles or broken bones, for several miles. Once we got down to where you could actually walk normally, Molly fugued out and walked back to the bus like the Terminator. I was even having trouble keeping up at one point, it was pretty funny (to me).
