White Sands National Park
Written By Adam Manninen
Another smaller park: there’s just one dead-end road in, you park and go wander the dunes. The color was incredible, and the dunes were relatively damp, so the sand didn’t blow around much and walking on them didn’t get your shoes filled with sand. This unfortunately also means that footprints don’t get blown away, but if you hike back in enough you can find some pristine dunes.
They closed the park after sunset so unfortunately I wasn’t able to take astro photos; it would be great to go back in the summer with a backcountry camping permit. But the light changed a lot during the time we were in the park, so I got a pretty good variety of images.
