Shenandoah National Park & The Blue Ridge Parkway

Mostly undeterred by the looming threat of wildfires, we made our way into Shenandoah National Park. The park is pretty simple, just a long road along the Blue Ridge mountains, that then connects directly to the northern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our lone hike in Shenandoah was a short, but very fun rock scramble to an overlook, and then a loop back down along the Appalachian Trail.

For the rest of the day, we drove south (AWAY from the wildfire smoke) through the park, stopping at any overlook that seemed interesting.

Blue Ridge Parkway

All of these photos are from somewhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I’ll be gosh-darned if I can remember exactly where. My camera is from the last generation before GPS was standard, and we were on and off the parkway at least 3 times over the course of a couple weeks. Some of these are from hikes, most of them are from overlooks, and one is from a place we slept.
