Meandering around Idaho

Our travels through Idaho were pretty aimless, even by our standards. We had some things shipped to an Amazon locker in Boise, so we spent a few days checking out the wildlife preserves in the area waiting for that stuff to show up.

Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area

One of my goals on this trip is to see a Golden Eagle in the wild, and this place was supposed to be a fairly high-traffic area for them. After several days of searching, no luck, unfortunately. There were surprisingly few raptors around for a birds of prey area, even though it was a good time for year for them. Oh well, that’s birding!

Jacks Creek Campground

This was just a little free BLM campground that turned out to be great for birds. I watched a huge group of nighthawks eating bugs over a field, and got good images of a California Quail and an Avocet, two birds I’d had a lot of near-misses with.

Pelicans!

I like big birds. I think there should be bigger birds! Bring back pterodactyls!

I did not expect to find so many pelicans in Idaho, but life is full of mysteries and wonders.

City of Rocks National Reserve

Apparently on this trip we will never get sick of looking at cool rocks.
