Goodbye to the Southwest

At this point it was early March 2024, and I had been interviewing for jobs for several weeks. Shortly after leaving Bryce Canyon I accepted an offer in St. Paul, Minnesota, and with a firm end date for our trip, we started to make our way back home.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

We had briefly visited this area near Las Vegas at the beginning of the trip (on the same day we blew our transmission, actually), but this time we were able to get into the campground, do the scenic drive, and get a little hike in.

Great Basin National Park

Nevada’s only National Park was still a little too snowed in for us to do much. We almost stayed at the campground, but left because it started to snow and get slick and we were worried about getting stuck on the mountain. But we came back the next day to do the cave tour.

Lehman Caves

Bonneville Salt Flats

A very cool place where a lot of land speed records were set and broken. We were too chicken to drive the bus out on it, but I’d love to come back some day in a 4x4 and rip across this thing.

Great Salt Lake

It’s big!
